Darlington Morley

- 1957
| Mr. Morley was the author of the famous Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson: A Textbook of Friendship, the first of the annotated compilations of Dr. John H. Watson's Sherlock Holmes tales. From this volume was drawn Morley's recommendations for Required Readings in Sherlockiana. Morley was also the author of the famous introduction, In Memorium, Sherlock Holmes, published in The Complete Sherlock Holmes, Doubleday's compilation of Dr. Watson's work. Mr. Morley was a gifted writer, journalist and editor (of The Saturday Review) who was most well-known outside of Sherlockian circles for his book, Kitty Foyle. He founded (or co-founded, depending on the source), the Baker Street Irregulars and his investiture in that society, The Sign of the Four, has been formally retired. |
